Drift Away Travel Blog - Kyle in Trinidad & Tobago - Waterfalls

Where do I start? Let’s begin with a brief introduction.

I’m Kyle, and over the past few years, I fell in love with travel. I was born in Trinidad, but raised in Montreal (Quebec), Canada. I’m not sure why it took me so long to finally realize how amazing traveling is, but let’s chalk it up to me being a late bloomer.

As a teenager, the only places I had ever really been were Canada, the United States (courtesy of my traveling basketball team), and back to Trinidad. I didn’t know it then, but those trips, no matter how small, sparked a curiosity in me, the same curiosity that blossomed into a healthy relationship with travel, the world and people. I now know firsthand how rewarding travel can be and I’d like to share my experiences and advice with any and everyone that enjoys traveling, or even just reading.

I was 5 years old the first time I ever sat on a plane. But I can still very clearly remember the way it felt to be inside of what seemed like a spaceship to me at the time; the excitement, the fear. Looking out at the clouds as we soared thousands of feet above the ground and water, traveling to some far off land (which turned out to be little ol’ Canada), even as a child, travel had a way of centering me.

That feeling was never forgotten, but it certainly was buried for a time. I didn’t grow up rich. Like most Canadians, my parents worked hard and made an honest living to keep the lights on and food on the table. The mindset then was that traveling was a luxury and not a fundamental human right. And I say right because what traveling really is, is an exercise in human freedom – physical, emotional, mental & spiritual. Freedom.

I’m not some travel know it all. I don’t have all the answers. But I am willing to seek the answers out. More importantly, I’m willing to share them, with you. I’d like to take you along for the ride whenever and wherever I decide to go. And the best part about it, is that it’ll cost you little more than a few minutes of your time per post.

This website is my gift to you. I hope it inspires, motivates and intrigues you the way meeting people, discovering the world and living out different experiences through travel does for me. I’ll always do my absolute best to give you tested and/or well-researched tips, great content and a few laughs along the way.

Yours truly,

Drift Away.
